Tomorrow at 11:00 a.m., the Lynchburg Circuit Court will issue what could be a decisive ruling on the redistricting amendment.
The question before the Court is straightforward, even if the politics around it are not:
When the Constitution says a ballot referendum cannot be submitted to voters “sooner than 90 days,” what does that actually mean?
Does it mean voting can begin on Day 44 through early voting?
Or does it mean the question cannot be answered at all until at least 90 days have passed from January 16, 2026?
On behalf of the City of Lynchburg, I have filed the brief. I have made the argument. I have framed the issue as cleanly and directly as possible. At this point, the matter rests with Judge Yeatts.
It is one of the great honors of my career to represent Lynchburg on an issue of this magnitude.
Tonight, I ask you to pray for Judge Yeatts. Pray sincerely. Pray that he is given wisdom, clarity, and the courage to issue a just and reasoned decision tomorrow.
