The U.S. is structurally incapable of doing diplomacy with Iran. They tore up the one deal they did sign in 2015 and more recently under the influence of Kushner-Witkoff-Netanyahu-Dermer engaged in a style of extreme duplicity by twice attacking them mid-negotation that belligerents did not even engage in during World War II. Domestic politics aside Iran has very little incentive to appoint a conciliatory leader to negotiate with the West or get sanctions removed as no such negotiation is possible. If Khamenei II pursues Iranian relations with China and Russia and changes nuclear doctrine that will be predictable outcome.
