It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Korean builder share something that truly resonates with me as a researcher.
As someone who often gets asked to advise on tokenomics design during research work—or even receives direct requests to help with it—I always find myself coming back to the same question:
“Did Bitcoin succeed because it had a meticulously crafted tokenomics design?”
Of course, Bitcoin is an exception in every debate, so let’s set it aside. Even then, I can’t think of a single project with a highly complex, math-heavy tokenomics model that actually succeeded because of that model.
On the other hand, projects like $BONK or $DOGE, which have much simpler models, seem to succeed by capturing value from other aspects of the market—not because of tokenomics.
After years of research, the conclusion I keep arriving at is this: instead of spending all that time trying to fine-tune tokenomics, it’s far more productive to ask “How can I make my product more useful, even just a little bit?”
I’ve never had the chance to meet @delabs_james in person, but if the opportunity ever comes, I’d love to sit down and exchange thoughts with him.
Good Product > > > > Sophisicated Tokenomics. Period.
BTW Did @delabsOfficial really launch and experiment with various games before releasing their token? Or is it just a narrative they’re trying to fit after the fact?
If it’s the former, then it seems like Delabs is taking a very deliberate and cautious approach.

🔥 Use it as a new indicator: ROTS
James (@delabs_james ) l Former CEO of NEXON said about Sustainability of WEB3 Game & Tokenomics.
He said that no matter how excellent the tokenomics may be, a project cannot be sustainable if it cannot generate revenue in proportion to the actual utility of the token. This insight was based on the traditional marketing concept of ROAS (Return on Advertising Spend), which measures revenue per advertising cost.
📂 How about Delabs(@delabsOfficial )
Delabs went through a process to find the game genre that best fits Web3.
AAA-style and @delabsRRS had too many requirements and high barriers, making them not 100% suitable.
GCB(@GIGACHADBAT ). casual game, created a large user base through simple gameplay, but it was difficult to integrate Web3 elements.
Midcore game BSX(@BoxingStarX ), on the other hand, combined simple gameplay with the acquisition of collectibles through achievements and quest progression, which successfully drove player immersion and sustained engagement.
Through this approach, Delabs generated $1.2M in revenue within just three months. This is a figure suitable for building a sustainable economy based on ROTS.
Furthermore, Delabs is launching a game utilizing the major IP Ragnarok alongside its TGE. By leveraging AI technology to shorten publishing timelines, Delabs aims to release many profitable games in a short period, continuously working to maintain ROTS.
Having achieved legendary accomplishments in Web2, he believes that now is the perfect timing for Web3 and gaming to truly thrive and at the center of it all is Delabs.
