Should You Send Your Kids to Private School? I see more and more crypto bros settling down, so I thought I’d share our experience with a private elementary school. I’ll go over the misconceptions, fears, and takeaways my wife and I had - maybe it helps someone thinking about it. Let me start out by saying that I'm coming from a humble background and attending a private school was akin to meeting Little Red Riding Hood in the woods - a thing of fiction. Fast forward 20 years, our first-born went to a public school, it was the natural choice, we didn’t even consider alternatives. But by 3rd grade, things deteriorated and we decided to change schools. "If we have to do this, let's just go private" I uttered to my wife, who thought I was joking. But Bojan does not joke, so that's what we did. What we mostly worried about was peer pressure - phones, clothes, cars, vacations... Surprisingly, this wasn’t an issue, at least in our kids' classes. Education quality: The logistics and staff are solid, but not dramatically better than a good public school. Curriculum is similar unless you pick a niche school. People often assume “better education” is the reason to go private, but it’s not, at least not in the narrow academic sense. My main benefits (in no particular order): Smaller class sizes: A more focused and calm learning environment. Accountability: Bad teachers or disruptive kids are removed much faster than in public schools. After-School Activities: Great variety - chess, acting, robotics, drawing, sports, piano, coding... and you can switch every trimester. International Competitions: Private schools actively seek out competitions, collaborations etc. My son attended three multi-day events in different countries in the last 2 years. Results were secondary, but the experience and exposure were invaluable. Networking: You’re surrounded by families who prioritize investing in their children. That network will pay dividends later in life. Parent Community: To my surprise, those parents are much easier to get along with, far less pointless drama than we experienced in the public school. Private doesn’t have to be insanely expensive either, ours is affordable, and most families there are upper middle class. I'd definitely recommend considering it, if you have the option.
