Ofcom has been sending several American clients pretty stupid letters over the last six months.
Pinged the White House about it this morning. Got a callback 20 minutes later asking for recommendations for visa bans.
What a time to be alive.
Suffice it to say Peter Kyle is going to be on the list, and I’m going to be sending the WH this interview

"Could Britain shut X down?"
"Britain has the power to shut down any platform."
As new rules aim to shield children online from pornographic & harmful content, @bbcpaddy presses Science & Tech Secretary Peter Kyle on how far the government is willing to go.
#Newsnight
For the first time in my life, the government is actually run by people who care about the Bill of Rights instead of just using it as a prop, and it’s great.
The Online Safety Act is not gonna make it. Brits have no idea how much anger there is in the U.S. political apparatus over Internet censorship and the lengths America - the entity - is prepared to go to stop it.
.@byrnestorm has sent the letter to the WH. The firm has asked the White House to ban Peter Kyle from the United States.
On behalf of several U.S. companies, @byrnestorm wrote a letter to the White House today requesting urgent diplomatic assistance to stop the OSA from harming Americans.
The firm also asked the State Dept to ban Peter Kyle from the country.

If you have a standard X account in the UK - presumably the vast majority of British users - you cannot see any protest footage that contains any violence tonight. Because of the Online Safety Act.
A relative in America sent me this screenshot of one blocked post

@ByrneStorm The story here is that a small U.S. platform had five minutes of downtime in its IP block. Ofcom was stalking the site every single day and freaked out.
Americans did not win independence to have British officials threaten us with prison time on a daily basis.
Enough is enough
@ByrneStorm The story here is that a small U.S. platform had five minutes of downtime in its IP block. Ofcom freaked out and sent a demand letter.
We told the WH. The WH asked us to tell them who was responsible.
Threatening USians with jail time on a daily basis is outrageous. Enough.
@ByrneStorm tl;dr a small U.S. platform had five minutes of downtime in its IP geoblock.
Ofcom freaked out and sent a demand. We told the WH. The WH asked us to tell them who was responsible.
Threatening Americans with jail time over maintenance downtime is outrageous. Enough is enough.
@ByrneStorm We also asked the Trump Administration to begin seeking criminal indictments for conspiracy against rights against UK politicians who try to censor Americans online.
