Brandon Sanderson self-published 4 novels and broke all records, scoring IIRC 88 million on a Kickstarter. Sometime in the future there will be a men's adventure author, a Cis Straight White Male, who succeeds entirely separately from New York TradPub, from first book to fame and fortune, and I mean in a blockbuster way. And TradPub will not get to rob him of their traditional 95% take of the proceeds of his books. Because they prejected him, and he never even considered going tradpub, never even tried to submit to an agent or publisher. The future is Indie, for a long while, at least until new Indie publishers grow up to supplant the the dinosaurs. The comet already hit. The dinosaurs are dying. They just haven't fully grasped that fact yet.
