I don't think I've ever seen this big of a dispersion between public and private markets in crypto compared to 2017/2021/2024.
Publics are ripping new all-time highs. With the GENIUS Act now law, the macro and regulatory landscape has never been better for crypto.
Yet privates are ... crickets. Deal count activity is slow, fundraises for both companies and funds are taking a while to get done, and new top founder talent still builds in AI over crypto.

I think a big cause of VC groupthink is the desire to get short-term markups by your peers at bigger funds. Markups help with fundraising and getting promoted. So you learn to think like them.
What I've learned is valuations tend to increase faster than companies are derisked. Markups tend to be low signal until it's Series B or later.

It’s incredible how VC groupthink works. Seeing companies where a year ago they would not have gotten any offers above $20M post. Today they and all their competitors get bid up to at least $50M. Space hasn’t derisked either.
