My unfiltered take on the current state of Web3 gaming:
First off, I’m not the most involved person in the space
And I’ve never been known as a “Web3 gaming creator” specifically.
As a creator, I move in a grey area, not fully tied to any single topic.
(Lesson learned from my year of going all in on Polygon, If you know, you know)
Still, I’ve met amazing people both online and IRL, who genuinely care about this space and see it as something bigger than just a niche in crypto.
Few people know that in late 2024 and early 2025
I was fully convinced I wanted to build a Spanish speaking Web3 gaming community.
I saw the potential and to be honest, I still do.
Gaming has always felt like one of the strongest gateways to bring people into crypto.
The Axie boom in 2021 was one of the biggest adoption events this space has ever seen.
But after the San Francisco trip, I realized things were only going to get harder.
More studios would shut down, and the energy just wasn’t there.
So I stepped back.
Looking back now, that was the right call.
Focusing on StarPlatinum has been the best choice I could’ve made as a creator.
Right now, we’re in the best moment crypto has seen in the last 3 years
Everything is pumping.
And yet, gaming tokens are still down.
Studios are still shutting down.
And the entire sector feels stuck.
My whole Web3 gaming portfolio is deep in the red.
I’ve been working with Ronin for almost a year.
Haven’t sold a single payment.
In fact, I reinvested into the ecosystem and ended up losing five figures.
It’s frustrating when you realize that if I had just held BTC or ETH instead, I’d be in profit today.
And I can’t imagine how the people who’ve gone all in with full conviction and belief in this industry must feel.
But despite everything, I still see a light at the end of the tunnel.
There’s still hope.
There are still games being built that give me that spark, that reminder that good things might be coming.
Games like:
– Fableborne
– Project O
– Cambria
– Runiverse
And of course, the promise of the Axie MMO, and a stronger future for Ronin once we get through this storm.
I’ll be honest I liked closed Ronin more.
Open Ronin hasn’t lived up to expectations, and I don’t think all the decisions have been the right ones.
But if there’s one team that knows how to bounce back and turn things around
It’s them.
Overall, I think we’re either close to the bottom, or already there.
At some point, a game will come that flips the narrative.
Sometimes all it takes is a spark.
I still believe in games on the blockchain.
And I still believe Web3 gaming might be inevitable.
