This past week I was part of the 133rd Anniversary Nyahbinghi Celebration of the Birth of Haile Selassie in Brooklyn — the first NYC mayor to ever attend this annual Rastafarian tradition. The week also saw me worship at the Church of the Seraphim and Cherubim in the Bronx, whose mostly Nigerian congregants equally reflect New York’s spiritual diversity.

As mayor, I made subway safety a top priority. People feel safer, and ridership is high. I’m calling on the MTA to do something about this heat!

With the Safe Hotels Act now in effect, we’re raising standards for safety, staffing, and cleanliness in our hotels. HOME-RUNS: We have gone from record to record when it comes to providing housing solutions for New Yorkers who need them most. In 2024, my administration delivered nearly 10,000 units of affordable and supportive housing to seniors, families and the formerly homeless across New York. Because the City of Yes is also the City of Now!

Subway surfing has taken the lives and potential of too many young New Yorkers. I have seen first-hand the heartbreak and anguish this trend has caused too many families, and that's why we've worked hard to prevent the next tragedy.

FAITH IN MOTION: Pastor Richard Nsiah of of the Church of the Pentecost is leaving New York and heading to Minnesota where he will continue to minister with compassion and integrity. I was honored to celebrate Ps. Nsiah's work as well as his diversity-rich congregation this morning in the Bronx.

AFRICA IN AMERICA: For 50 years, the Church of the Eternal Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim has functioned as a spiritual and communal gathering point of the Nigerian immigrant community in the Bronx. Which is why I was so privileged to celebrate their half-century milestone on Sunday. From the shores of Nigeria to the shores of the Bronx, your prayers have helped make who we are today!

Diversity is the backbone of a strong New York, which is why I was honored to serve as Grand Marshall of the International Peruvian Parade today in Queens. If you’re close to Jackson Heights, the Parade is still going strong along 37th Avenue!
