Why Hivemapper killed the AI Trainer platform and why it will reduce weekly HONEY emissions by 10%. 🧵

1. The AI Trainer platform allowed users to improve AI models and edit map data through interactive labeling tasks designed as games.

2. Launched in 2023, the AI Trainer platform attracted tens of thousands of users at its peak, who played data-labeling games and earned HONEY rewards.

3. Throughout 2023 and even most of 2024, humans AI trainers performed better than foundational LLM models like ChatGPT.

4. In early late 2024 foundational LLM models started to outperform humans in the vast majority of these data labeling games so we made the decision to retire the AI Trainer platform.

5. This (a) frees up technical resources for the team, and (b) reduces weekly HONEY token emissions by 10% that will be re-allocated to the Hivemapper Foundation and put to use on future higher value projects.
