It would be ideal to stop airdropping and instead have ICO sales (like Pumpfun today), but at the same time, most projects don't have all their attention to them in the first place, and without a point system/airdrop system, many people might never hear about them and therefore not join the sale.

Best outcome is users get whitelisted to participate in a sale at a good price
And if you think the users wouldn’t participate… or other market participants wouldn’t want to buy what’s left of the sale…
Then you’re probably not ready to launch the token yet and don’t have pmf
