Blockspace Dilemma.
Polynya said that the main focus must be on efficiently utilizing blockspace, but it's pretty interesting to look at this from another perspective, because blockspace is not all the same.
All rollups combined make approximately 400 TPS, while the theoretical limit is hundreds of thousands.
In theory, we have a huge ocean, but the water that we can fill it with is not universal.
Currently, there is no way to put really complex logic on-chain without struggling with costs and speed (or it's simply impossible). Complex logic is not the water that we can put in this ocean; there is not enough supply, plus very limited programmability.
Even if we take Visa — during peak hours it processes 4,000 TPS. Visa has millions of customers.
Even if we transition all Visa customers just for payments, one rollup will be enough. If we decide to put Visa, Uber, or PayPal infrastructure itself on-chain, we would need hundreds of thousands of rollups.
From one side, we really have an infinite ocean to fill with all the water from the world. From the other side, nothing really fits.
