sounds cliche but genuinely completely changed my social life to move from the suburbs back to the city proper. Randomly bumping into friends went on the street/metro/store went from a “once a month” occurrence to a “nearly daily” occurrence.

And I was in Arlington, which is like a top-5% American suburb in terms of density/transit accessibility/amenities. It’s denser than a lot of core city centers!
