It’s truly incredible how obsessed Mao was with traditional Chinese culture given the fact that he became its destroying angel. He read Dreams of the Red Chamber 25 times! The best way I can describe that book is if Middlemarch was all about the decline of one aristocratic family and it got so long the writer became deceased before finishing it.
