If you think that a) the Fed is independent, and b) that Fed independence is critical to the US... ...then why not advocate for the US going back on a gold standard? Nothing would make the Fed more independent than a gold standard. "Whoa, whoa, whoa...not THAT independent!!"

2/ Once you frame it like this, you see how hypocritical and political the whole "Fed independence" debate is. It's about allowing the "animals" that are "more equal than others" continue to be bailed out of their bad decisions, but not all "animals."
