We desperately need more objective data on crypto ownership and usage. Most of the data out there is from surveys conducted by crypto companies or advocacy organizations and it is embarrassingly bad. These surveys suggest that the total number of Americans who own crypto is roughly 50-70 million. The FDIC's annual SHED survey suggests the number is closer to 18-20 million. That's a BIG difference! If you're a founder and you are thinking about different problems to solve and different markets to attack, you might make a very different decision depending on which of those two numbers you see.
