"It's a tough construction job," Trump says alongside Powell, Scott at the Fed's headquarters. He says the price of the reno went up. Powell replies, "I haven't heard that," then when Trump produces a piece of paper: "You added in a third building." "It's not new," Powell says.
A reporter asks what Powell could say today to make Trump back off of the renovations. "Well, I'd love him to lower interest rates!" Trump responds.
“People are pretty much unable to buy housing because the interest rates are too high,” Trump says later. “Americans deserve to be first-time homebuyers,” Scott adds.
“I see a very luxurious situation taking place, let’s put it that way,” Trump says. "It would have been good if they didn’t build [a basement]; it would’ve been good if they didn’t do certain other things."
