It's easy to forget that there are two more developers currently being prosecuted by SDNY for writing open source privacy code. In the case against Samourai Wallet developers, Judge Cote just decided that William Hill and Keonne Rodriguez may not get separate trials, and therefore may not testify as witnesses at each others proceedings. Why? Because the developers wanted to testify to guidance they received from FinCEN, showing that they believed to have operated in the full realm of the law – which Judge Cote says is irrelevant to their case. Now we all thank Todd Blanche for his April memo advising DOJ to drop registration violation charges against crypto mixers and apologize to L0la, because she was right.
