When the mind gets a choice, it won’t let you choose discomfort over comfort. The mind is short-sighted. Basically, it doesn’t want to attend to the discomfort in the short timeframe - even if that discomfort is temporary and capable of providing comfort in a much longer timeframe. But that could change when the intellect convinces the mind about the long-term potential reward that’s hidden behind the current outlook of short-term discomfort. The mind will ignore the intellect as long as it's not convinced, as long as it doesn’t receive familiar signals from the collective consciousness to validate the incoming request from the intellect. When the intellect has enough reasoning, it can process signals from that same collective consciousness and present them to the mind, which it can instantly validate and then agree to what the intellect is suggesting. In that case, the first layer of ignorance can be broken. And when ignorance is broken, the intellect gets a chance to break more layers and go deeper into the discovery of the self - where true knowledge finds its place without needing any external reasoning derived from collective consciousness.
