What's the worst monster in any video game? For my money, it's bats. Bats are really annoying and hard to hit. They often give you some kind of obnoxious status ailment (disease, anyone? bleeding?). And worst of all, they never carry hardly any treasure. Plus they come in groups. Bats sucked when we first saw them in Zelda and they suck now. The bat's characteristics come from them being bats - flittery little guys without loot. But ecch.
