It doesn’t refer to Isildur and Anárion as people but specifically only to their collective statues Btw “Ara” also shows up in Aragorn (“king who’s revered”) and “Gon” also shows up in Gondor (“stone country”)

I used to think “Argonath” was inspired by “Argonauts,” the heroes who sailed with Jason on his ship the Argo, but nope!
