Moments of the Unknown. 112
July 28th at 17:38 in Beacon, New York
We found ourselves upstate standing on the rocks in the sun at the precipice of a giant lake in the town of Beacon, a funky art town. At first we adventured to DIA Beacon, I had never been there before. I left feeling inspired some of the greatest works of art ever created.
There are hundreds of large colorful shadows by Warhol in a clean gallery, a haunting brick room with a giant Louise Bourgeois metal spider crawling up the wall, and finally, a Steve McQueen minimalist red neon room shifting to green then blue with the sound of a vibrating bass that you can feel chilling in your bones.
We saw so much great art in one place that my heart was going to explode! Morgan wanted to show us her peaceful place by the water where nobody else really goes. So we started to shoot there. Then here came memory lane. Once Morgan started looking back at me, memories from high school flooded my mind. The long walks home from school and in the mall, the late night talks on the phone, best friends making youtube music videos on small handheld cameras. It started to come back like a lightning flash when I saw her smile back at me like old times. Some things never changed, yet some things do change.
The energy I felt I knew I was with my friend again, even as we grow older that connection never faded. As some friends do when you drift apart. It was a respectful friendship of purity and innocence, we never tried to be together... I thought; well, it's better to stay friends than try to ruin what we had, while we were growing up at Sachem. We were in good company as freshman and sophomores.
She was there for me when my best friend Matthew Haley passed away junior year, when I found out my mom had cancer she would cheer me up; A great friend indeed. I started to get in to trouble at school and dealing around town. Things took a dark turn for me our senior year, and we stopped hanging out as much since she stems from the light.
After graduating I left home and started to get my head on straight. Letting go of the past and start heading into the future to do right. Making amends with the chaos I caused myself. It took me a while to figure out; You have to forgive yourself first to be free. We reunited after collage and went to a few concerts in the city like we did when we were younger for the warped tours.
We were both a bit emo, mixed with a skateboarding lifestyle. I guess thats why and how we became friends in the first place. Music and taste. Morgan was the first person to visit my first art exhibit for Twin Flames and it was a blessing to see her so proud of me and how far we came.
Now, years later she is part of my artwork. A 10 second portrait of her looking back at me.
Remembering our beautiful friendship. From all those childhood days together hanging out making funny videos, I look back at them now as a gateway of inspiration to the journey I was on now. Learning to create, having fun with my friends, a feeling of remembering and creating the best of times while you are going through the worst. Like I said earlier, some things never change...
