/ Honored to be carrying the torch today for @ethereum's 10 year anniversary celebration! If you'll indulge me for a few tweets, I'd like to talk about my own personal journey in the Ethereum ecosystem :)
/ My Ethereum journey started in 2017 when a friend told me about this new project that was “like Bitcoin” but you could build things on it. This sparked my interest since I had been involved with Bitcoin back in 2013 but became disinterested in it due to how limited it was.
/ From there, I spent countless hours doing as much research as I could to better understand this paradigm-shifting technology - my mind was honestly blown. A network that is not only decentralized itself but also allows for decentralized applications to be built on top of it? Sign me up! I was fully Ethereum-pilled from day 1.
/ Then, in 2018, I started a humble newsletter called ‘Block by Block’ which went on to become the ‘EthHub Weekly Newsletter’ once I founded EthHub with @econoar in late 2018. I then joined Set (an OG DeFi project) in mid-2019 and later founded @thedailygwei in mid-2020.
/ 2019 was also my first Ethereum conference which was Edcon in Sydney. It was one of the best times of my life. I met so many of my heroes in the industry, talked to so many friends that I had never met in person before, and even sat on a panel with Vitalik as the host!
/ I’ve been independent ever since early 2021 and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It gives me the freedom to be part of the Ethereum ecosystem in a really meaningful way that allows me to have the most impact (particularly via my educational efforts).
/ The achievement I’m personally most proud of is that I started from 0 in this industry and grew myself to be one of the top voices of Ethereum. In 2017, I had no connections, no previous affiliations, I wasn’t a developer or an expert on anything and I had basically no social media following. Today, I’m able to use my reach to be as involved in any part of the Ethereum ecosystem as I want to be and through my educational work @thedailygwei, I’ve had countless people tell me that I helped them in their own Ethereum journeys.
/ In saying all of that, the job is far from done. We still have most of the planet left to onboard and many industries to disrupt as well as improve Ethereum as a network so that it’s much more scalable and, more importantly, much more private.
/ Ethereum is civilizational-level infrastructure - it is a wonder of the world - there is quite literally nothing else like it. But it relies on us - the social layer - to make sure Ethereum remains awesome and keeps getting even better.
/ I’ve honestly never been more bullish on the Ethereum ecosystem than I am today - we’re firing on all cylinders! I don’t think it’s a matter of “if” Ethereum’s problems will be solved - it’s simply a matter of “when”. And we’ll solve them while preserving what makes Ethereum great!
/ Happy 10th birthday to Ethereum and cheers to another 10 years (and many more) of the the most decentralized, censorship-resistant, credibly neutral, reliable and secure world computer. Oh and, the ticker is ETH!
