The average transaction size on Visa is just $45. 🧾 That number turns out to be an elegant heuristic when analyzing stablecoin activity on-chain. Here’s what we found with Visa x Allium’s new dashboard update: 🧵
2/ We defined “retail-sized” payments as anything between $0–$250 — the kind of stuff you’d use a Visa card for: coffee, groceries, bills. Even though these are small in size, they dominate in frequency.

2/ First what does retail transaction behavior at merchants look like? Across all Visa transactions over the last 12 months (through March), the average transaction size was $45.   Most people tap for a coffee, not a car.
5/ Meanwhile, USDC shows up more in enterprise use cases: •B2B payments •HFT •Institutional settlement 📊 65% of adjusted volume is USDT 📉 But only 40% of unadjusted volume is USDT → points to USDC dominance in big transfers.
7/ So what’s the takeaway? Stablecoin “retail” is tiny in value, massive in volume. It mirrors what we see in traditional consumer payments — lots of small transactions that flow through many intermediaries. podcast here:
