The moving starving child photo from the NYT article has a genetic disorder known to cause muscle wasting. NYT doesn't mention it, only quotes the mother "he was born a healthy child." The Gaza situation is horrible. It's very counterproductive for journalists to lie about it.
Journalists are still deciding "we should bend the truth to making people believe what we believe." There is a crisis of faith in journalism right now. When you embellish what is happening, you undermine your cause, and you undermine your institution. Please stop doing this.
I found the Gaza starvation article extremely emotive and disturbing. Learning that the central image was misrepresented gives me just a little bit more doubt about everything else in the article, and about everything the NYT publishes about Gaza in the future. Fool me once.
