Brief advice for young aspiring writers trying to a place to have their work shared with the world: it's important to remember that most literary magazines today have more submitters than readers. The ratio of submitters to readers gets worse with every passing year. Do you read everything these magazines put out? If you aren't reading them, who's going to read you? You are not writing for an audience, unfortunately. It's just not the world we live in anymore. You are writing for "prestige". You're writing so that someone with enough influence, money, and time to be an editor of a literary magazine might vouch for your ideas. Maybe that's okay, maybe that's what you want. Maybe this process and acquired prestige will result in you finding an audience for your work in the future. I'm not saying you can't submit to magazines, I'm not trying to discourage you about the prospect of creating ideas that matter to the world. I'm saying when you're alone at your computer writing, or submitting to literary magazines and not hearing back, you should perceive the process on those terms.
