AlphaEarth Foundations tackles 2️⃣ key hurdles scientists face – information overload and inconsistent sources – by unifying petabytes of data into a single view of Earth. This means they no longer have to spend weeks processing observations into usable maps. 🗺️

The model uses sophisticated embeddings – or unique numerical identifiers – to learn features across our planet. This allows it to identify characteristics that distinguish a sandy beach from a vast desert - based on patterns across optical, radar, 3D data and more.

AlphaEarth Foundations consistently outperforms other AI-based and traditional methods, with 24% lower error rates. Plus, its compact observation summaries are 16 times more storage-efficient than other AI systems – which means less compute and storage needs for scientists using the data.
