If we stabilized the Salton Sea at -228', we could construct a navigable canal (or two) from the ocean with no locks and a gradient of only 0.1%. This is well within limits for engineered sloped navigable canals. It would be super cool to traverse from San Diego through a tunneled canal to the Sea, sail around for a few weeks, then traverse out to the south to the Gulf of California.
