My friend used to be super active in DeFi during the 2020 and 2021 run. Then Terra Luna and FTX blew up, and he exited the space. But now he’s back after hearing about ETH’s price action. I’ve been catching him up over the past few days on everything. Honestly, it feels like my guy just got out of jail after 2 decades and I’m showing him what an iPhone is. Here’s what’s blown his mind so far: 1) Bridging is actually fast now. Back then he’d send funds and just sit there panicing for an hour. Thinks Jumper Exchange is magic. 2) Loves how fast and cheap Layer 2s are. He’s obsessed with Base. Says he feels safer knowing Coinbase is behind it. The PTSD is real. 3) Getting gas tokens is painless now. He was always hunting for faucets or having to use CEXs. Or begging people on Discord. Showed him SmolRefuel, GasZip, and Rabby’s gas features. Def loves using Rabby over M.M. 4) Doesn’t like CT compared to before. A lot of his old favorite accounts are gone. Wants to know where the guy who retweets Hentai is (Spartan). Says it doesn’t feel like a small community anymore. 5) He’s shocked that protocols are actually making money. Out of all the protocols so far, he loves Hyperliquid. The whole using 97% of revenue into buybacks blows his mind. He was into MCDEX back in the day and always believed perps would take off. 6) Solana. He assumed it died with FTX. Seeing it thriving again blew his mind. 7) Wants to know what happened to all the GameFi projects. “Dude it’s been 4 years, where the fuck are all the games?” 8) Wonders where all the 5 digit ponzi farms are. We’re deep in Crypto everyday so it can be hard to appreciate the progress. Sometimes you need someone who's been away to remind you just how far we’ve come. The good news is our exit liquidity is coming back.
