Analysts point out that under the new tax rates, India's tariffs will not only be higher than those of competitors in export markets like Vietnam, but also higher than the tariff rates on a range of products from China. "Once implemented, tariffs as high as 50% will be akin to a trade embargo, causing affected export products to suddenly cease flowing."
