It should be possible, indeed necessary, to hold two thoughts at once. First, despite the pervasive amnesia about 10/7, the world should never forget that Hamas is the central cause of the war in Gaza and the untold suffering it has unleashed. The primary responsibility for the war lies with its cause: Hamas. Second, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is morally unacceptable, and all parties, including the US and Israel, have a moral obligation to do their part in alleviating the hunger and hardship that have taken hold in Gaza. Hamas couldn’t care less if every Palestinian starved to death. But the free world must care. And more than care, we must act to prevent the crisis from deepening.
