In Hungary, a group of activists who disagree with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's policies have prepared a letter of support addressed to the Ukrainian people, which has already been signed by nearly 50,000 people. The letter expresses disagreement with the rhetoric of Orbán's government, condemns the Russian aggression that has been ongoing since 2014, calls for immediate, just, and lasting peace, guarantees of security for Ukraine, compensation for damages, and bringing those guilty of war crimes to justice. "It is in our vital interest that our neighbor does not become a vassal of Putin's Russia but remains an independent democracy in which all citizens, including national minorities, can freely exercise their rights," the letter says. In response, the Institute for Central European Strategy (ICES), too, initiated and published an open letter from Ukrainians to the Hungarian people.
