The “you can just do things” mentality is bad for society because it encourages hacking, cheating, finding the shortest path of least resistance, and optimizing for expediency when the mission of bringing heaven down to earth asks for genuine passion (Latin - passio, "suffering" or "being acted upon”). “Agency” on its own ironically actually lacks freedom because it’s enslaved by compulsion and the restless need to do, to acquire, to fix, to win, to progress, to “accelerate” or whatever without any regard for what is worthy of desire in the first place. “High-agency” people without true meaning are on a treadmill of exertion, unable to contemplate, love, and receive. It confuses the freedom to do as you please with the freedom to be acted upon by what is good, what is beautiful, what is true. It rejects the deeper freedom of obedience to a higher call/vocation, of being shaped, of waiting, of suffering for something worth suffering for.
