Today we’re launching Quilt, a batch storage solution with an intuitive API for Walrus. Small file storage is now seamless, efficient, and Walrus-native. Built to support every kind of builder and every kind of data. Let’s break it down 👇🧵
In just 3 months since Mainnet launch, Walrus now powers over 800+ TB of encoded data across 14 million blobs, used by projects like: 🐧 @pudgypenguins 🧠 @itheum 🗞️ @Unchained_pod & @DecryptMedia ⚙️ @ionet 🖨️ @3DOSNetwork But builders needed more.
Big files? Walrus crushed it. Small files? Until now, developers had to manually bundle them to keep costs down. It worked...but added overhead, complexity, and dev time. We knew we could do better.
Today we're launching Quilt - a new Walrus-native API designed for high-efficiency small file storage. NFT collections, AI agent data, and short-form social videos... Quilt is made for them all.
With Quilt, you can store up to ~660 small files in a single unit. This slashes WAL upload costs by: 🦭 Up to 106x for 100KB blobs 🦭 Up to 420x for 10KB blobs And yes - it also reduces SUI gas fees for the uploads.
Unlike hacky manual bundling, Quilt gives you: ✔️ Direct file access - no “unbundling” needed ✔️ Built-in metadata (tags, IDs) for smarter search & retrieval ✔️ Walrus-native support - no wrappers, no custom infra
Real builders are already using Quilt: 🗂️ @TuskyTools, a privacy-first decentralized file storage app, uses Quilt to improve performance and cut costs. @_pas_cal, Tusky CEO: “Quilt was a game-changer for handling smaller files…an order of magnitude more efficient at the publisher level.”
🧠 @Gata_xyz, building AI execution infrastructure, uses Quilt to manage thousands of small file uploads for AI datasets - all while preserving individual ownership & reducing fees for agents. Quilt = better economics, smoother dev workflow, and more scale.
Why Quilt matters for developers: - Bundle 100s of files natively - Lower costs at scale - Smart retrieval with built-in metadata and direct file access One platform. Any file size. No tradeoffs.
Quilt is one step closer to a future where storing any kind of data on Walrus - big or small - is efficient, verifiable, and builder-friendly. Learn more and start building 👇
