China just dropped a 25kg / 40lb 4 foot tall robot that can speak to you and do backflips for $5900. This is the first time a humanoid robot is cheaper than a maxed out MacBook Pro.

Granted, it's not particularly useful yet. It has 1hr battery life, can't grip or do meaningful tasks. But getting the price within the realm of personal affordability is a big deal. Don't know how US can compete with this cost. Source:
