I’ve been reading the Church Fathers and other ancient Christians almost everyday since the summer of 2017. I have yet to find a single one who did not believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary was a perpetual virgin. They knew Scripture better than any of us. They lived and died for the faith. Were they all just confused for millennia, to the point that the failed to perceive what was so “obvious” and “clear” according to later sects? Or—a shocking thought for most modern people, I know (that they could be wrong because they have not rightly received something from their ancestors)—could the later sects who contradicted them be missing something? “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons” (1 Tim. 4:1).
