I don't exactly how much party registration matters, but Republicans over the past decade have done a decent job at "staying still," while Democrats have fallen way back.
Some of this is losing ancestral dem areas, but the fact it's been such a steady loss is a bit foreboding.
European countries with proportional representation typically have a
- Green Party which focuses on environmental issues; a bit degrowther
- Lib Dem more post labor and “Abundance” oriented
- Far left party focused on government control
In the US these are all factions
