Some old Hashmasks/Waifu/BAYC lore for those of you who missed the start of last cycle 🪵🔥🪵 circle round Hashmasks minted on a bonding curve, meaning each successive batch of mints would get more expensive until the final item sold out. It was also a *large* collection (16k+). Hashmasks also emit a ERC20 called NCT, that can be used for name changes.
It cost over 10,000E to fully mint Hashmasks, the final 3 masks cost 100E each. Hashmasks minted out successfully Next comes Waifusion. Anonymous team, contract is forked from hashmasks. Also tried to sell 16k+ NFTs on *both ETH and BSC*. Max greed.
This time however, the mint sputtered out, @cobie got involved and people were trying to convince the team to do *something*. The team was ready to abandon it and was convinced to hand over control + small funds to the community. Now Waifus emitted an ERC20 called WET (I know)
So to finish the bonding curve, a community team (led by @0xKiwi_ and others) proposed moving unminted supply into a novel mechanic *The Dungeon* Instead of having to pay ETH for the final waifus, you could burn an existing waifu + ~5k WET to get one
Not long after this BAYC comes out and both Kiwi and I mint them and get talking to the team. Unlike Waifusion, BAYC has a flat mint price of 0.08E. But early minting was slow. It got to a point where we were discussing with @GordonGoner and @CryptoGarga an *ape dungeon*
Obviously that never happened and not long after apes completely minted out and thankfully did not need supply control mechanics But if it hadn't been for hashmasks -> waifusion, I probably would never have found apes or got involved FIN
