Ok this is probably how it’s gonna play out VPN bans next Then we’ll see tech companies just leave the UK (not worth it), further isolating us from the rest of the world culturally and technologically. Most of the internet is “not for U.K. audiences”. Pressure on the gov will mount, but they’ll double down on a failing policy (as per) Then the list of “harmful content” will expand to include things that are commonly held views in the U.K. the result (and intent) is to create a culture of fear to effectively scare people into conformity. It doesn’t work and has the opposite effect. Obviously. VPN use increases despite being banned. Citizens coordinate in darker parts of the internet. And public sentiment gets more hostile towards the gov. The government adds yet more things to the harmful content list, because it’s harmful to *them*. And et voilà we’re now on track for the usual failed state playbook, where governments attempt to censor their citizens to maintain legitimacy and it backfires horribly. Game over.

4 of the top 5 most downloaded apps in the UK are VPNs - which enable kids to circumvent the age controls of the Online ‘Safety’ Act. These also defeat parental controls provided by ISPs. Children are less safe. All this does is clamp down on free speech.
