Christopher Nolan & Hans Zimmer’s collaboration on the Interstellar score is one of my absolute favorite stories of a creative process Chris told Hans nothing about the plot of the movie. Not that it’s a sci-fi movie, or set in space… nothing He wrote on a single page the “fable at the heart of my next project” and handed it to Hans in an envelope. It described the emotional heart of the movie. I’m not sure if it’s ever been reported what was on that page, but I have my guesses. Neither had ever tried anything like this. Hans produced a single track, Chris rushed over to listen to it. And only then did Chris reveal the plot. They were both amazed at both the disparity between the music and the plot, yet how it so perfectly fit Chris used that track to finish the script, listened to it constantly on set. And the final score is nothing short of a masterpiece. Begun only with emotions, no context ❤️
