3/ What happens to choice when we don’t know what we’re not seeing? XCOPY visualizes that existential anxiety: Overwhelm, censorship, and numbness hidden beneath a digital veneer. The glitch in this work appears as TV static, like a broken signal or corrupted feed. Compare that to Disaster Suit (also in our collection), which strips the figure away completely. Just raw, digital noise. And the covered mouth? It might signal someone being muzzled, speech taken. Or a hostage, hijacked. Or, eerily, a premonition of the medical mask and the wave of mandates that followed a year later. We’re not told, and that’s the power of this work.
