Tsunami update as of 6:45pm PT: A tsunami has been generated, and it was damaging near epicenter. Tsunami Warnings remain in effect for many Pacific Islands (including Hawaii) and SW AK. However, for U.S./Canada West Coast, Watch *has been canceled* & converted to "Advisory."

Even small-magnitude coastal surges, however, can be energetic and damaging to coastal structures, boats, and dangerous to people in those locations. So stay away from/out of the water, but it looks like more widespread coastal evacs are unlikely on North American West Coast.

Larger/more damaging tsunami inundation, however, remains possibly/likely elsewhere--especially in the West Pacific.
