I recently learned (first hand) in the US you can go around embezzling small amounts of money (~5-figures) and have more protections than the victim (i.e. the victim can't do anything about it). Meanwhile we throw people who steal toothpaste in prison. Broken system
The line is basically: We know the the embezzler is guilty — BUT it's "too small" for law enforcement to care (lol) and a legel proceeding will cost you more than the money you'd get if you win your (slam dunk) case.
