I’m all for artists sharing honest feelings and vulnerability. People tend to judge based solely on monetary results, without really seeing what artists go through to get to that point. Sure, some make a fortune while others barely make a dime. But we need to remember that we all started from the bottom, and everyone has a different timeline for success. Isn’t art supposed to be about sharing and expressing? And not competing and comparing? The only real competition is with our past selves. Sustaining is much harder than climbing. I’d say it’s a win when artists can share both the ups and the downs, not just the highlights.

I’m very grateful. Genuinely. But it’s impossible not to compare yourself against prior “builds” of yourself and wonder what you did wrong. You can stop telling me I should be grateful. I am. And I can promise you that my collectors will come to know that very well.
