Back when GitHub Copilot was new, I would ask engineers in interviews to disable it so I could see how they "really reasoned" about the problem. This is outdated today; I'd want any engineer I hire to be using AI tools when they work and I'd be impressed if they showed a mastery of AI tools in an interview. Wondering what the right balance today is... do you ask some data structures whiteboard question and then have them vibe code for 20 minutes? What are people doing for this
