Big updates to tournaments this week, with all new sudden death and shot clock mechanics! Our tournaments will now utilize steadily increasing damage throughout the match, with very late game sudden death coming into play. Read on to learn all the details 🧵
Banked Shot Clock: As the name implies, the banked shot clock will provide a supplementary pool of time that can be used on top of the shot clock duration when needed to make decisions. Players can pull from their banked time (which will default to 180 seconds) once their shot clock has run out. The maximum amount of time that can be used for any given turn is 60 seconds, at which point the player would receive a shot clock violation. Once the player has run out of banked time for a bout, they will have to execute their turns within the set shot clock duration. This feature will be available for configuration in both tournaments and private PvP bouts. Keep an eye on that clock, people!
Sudden Death: In addition to the shot clock, we have also introduced a total of three new Sudden Death modes. Here is a quick summary of each mode, including the current standard: Angry Tomatoes: The standard mode until now. Once the fight has reached 12.5 minutes before the round ends, the crowd will become impatient and start throwing tomatoes, damaging both the combatants' HP and their pride alike. Don't forget to duck!
Growing Atrophy: This new mode shakes up the shot clock game a bit. Once the fight has reached 15 minutes before the round ends, each time a Hero takes a turn, all Heroes gain +1.5% Atrophy. In addition, once the battle has reached 3 minutes before the end of the round, the aforementioned tomatoes from the Angry Tomatoes mode will begin to fall every 20 seconds with damage equivalent to 20% of each target’s max HP (modified by their current Atrophy value). Angry Tomatoes without Clock Debuff: This mode works the same as Angry Tomatoes but removes the slow turn debuff mechanic from activating when a player takes longer than 20 seconds to make a move. Growing Atrophy without Clock Debuff: This mode works the same as Growing Atrophy but removes the slow turn debuff mechanic from activating when a player takes longer than 20 seconds to make a move.
With the sudden death and banked shot clock changes above, we will be making the following updates: When banked shot clock is defined, there will no longer be a two-minute grace period at the beginning of the match. The slow debuff mechanic will only trigger when the Tournament’s standard shot clock duration is greater than 20 seconds.
Tournament Updates, As we roll out these new changes, we will be updating the default configuration for official tournaments to the following: Banked shot clock will default to 3 minutes. Sudden death mode will use Growing Atrophy without Clock Debuff. Shot clock duration will default to 10 seconds.
