Wow. Really didn't expect the 15% revshare to US gov from AMD & Nvidia's sales to China. This either proves the "national security" risk concerns were bogus or it prices that risk at a mere $3-4B/yr. Smart move by nvidia/AMD though. Increasing China ASP by 8-10% will likely be fine without risking demand shifting to local chip cos. GPUs are quite price inelastic. Margins come down from high 70s to low 60s. China was anyway ~10% of the sales so consolidated p&l impact is low and cos can now freely operate "fully compliant" and avoid the uncertainty & long term policy risk. I bet the stock rise alone will dwarf this fee but a really weird pay to play extortionist approach that others will now want to adopt to crack open the china market.
